Jersey Mike's Subs

Rating:
(4.5)
Sub sandwiches have been popular in the US since the Fifties and one of the earliest franchises is Jersey Mike’s. Their offering is relatively simple, of a submarine sandwich made to order with sliced meat, cheese, and vegetables. One of the most popular ways to finish off a Jersey Mike’s sub sandwich is to ask for it to be served ‘Mike’s Way’. This includes shredded lettuce, sliced onions, oregano, salt, and tomatoes. This is all topped off with ‘The Juice’ which is a tasty combination of red wine vinegar with olive oil. Jersey Mike’s is headquartered in Manasquan, New Jersey yet is well known across the USA with over 2330 locations. If you ever want a cold or hot submarine sandwich then there are few better options than heading to Jersey Mike’s. The menu includes fresh produce which is ideally shipped locally with quality ingredients of the leanest meat cuts and aged cheeses. It’s great to know that the roast beef is included in the USDA’s choice top rounds.

About The Menu

The menu at Jersey Mike’s is split into four sections. These include meals, cold subs, hot subs, kid’s meals, and then sides, drinks, and desserts. In the meals, you can expect some of the menu’s most prominent hot and cold subs (each regular-sized) served with a bag of chips and either a 20oz bottle of soda or a 20oz bottle of water. The subs on offer include the #7 Turkey and Provolone, #13 Original Italian, and #17 Famous Philly Sub.

Cold Subs

The cold subs include various meat combinations with some vegetarian options too. Popular cold subs include the #2 Jersey Shore Favorite of provolone, ham, and cappacuolo, #3 of simply ham and provolone, #10 of tuna fish, and the #13 Original Italian of provolone, ham, cappacuolo, prosciuttini, pepperoni, and salami. The regular is currently priced at from about $7 - $13 but you can upgrade or switch it up depending on whether you want a giant sub or in a tub.

Then there are the hot subs which include our favorite, delicious cheese steaks. These range from about $7 to $13 too. But if you’re not after steak, then you can opt for grilled chicken sandwiches instead. There is something for everyone at Jersey Mike’s.

There is no secret menu as such as you can simply ask for combinations of the available fillings to create your own sandwiches. One new meatless addition to the hot subs menu is the #64 Grilled Portabella Mushroom & Swiss which includes portabella mushrooms with green bell peppers, Swiss cheese, and onions.

Currently, the most popular hot subs include the #66 Portabella Cheese Steak, served with steak, portabella mushrooms, onions, peppers, and white American cheese (around $12) and the #65 Portabella Chicken Cheese Steak served with chicken, portabella mushrooms, onions, peppers, and white American cheese, which are both newer additions to the menu too. Another popular choice is the #16 Mike’s Chicken Philly which consists of grilled chicken, peppers, onions, and white American cheese (around $8).

The price of cold subs ranges from around $7 for a mini to $15 for a giant with a wrap or bowl priced around $9. Hot subs range from $10 roughly for a regular-sized hot sub, to $18 for a giant-sized sub and both a wrap and a bowl cost less than $10 currently, but this is subject to change.

Signature Wraps

You can also choose from five signature wraps for a lighter meal, full of protein and veggies. These include the simple Turkey Wrap, with honey mustard, the Grilled Veggie Wrap, served with grilled onions and peppers, melted swiss and provolone, lettuce, tomato and ranch dressing, or the Baja Chicken Wrap- filled with grilled sliced chicken breast, American cheese, salsa, lettuce and topped with jalapenos, or perhaps choose the the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, or the Chicken Caesar Wrap for all around $10 currently.

Our favorite has got to be the Buffalo Chicken Wrap which perfectly balances the flavors of hot sauce with bleu cheese. The wraps are packed with ingredients and toppings, enclosed tightly in a soft tortilla. They’re perfect for those who don’t want to eat a whole lot of bread, and prefer the fillings.

Nutritional Information

The Nutritional Information for each item does differ, predominantly on the size of the sub. A mini should be enough to feed one individual whereas a regular sub, wrap, or bowl is fit for two individuals and the giant sub should be enough for four individuals. With the larger sizes, you can certainly expect more calories and more of a filling meal.

Typical Examples

If you were to consider a #2 cold sub you would get the Jersey Shore’s Favorite and as a mini-sub, you can expect a total of 460 calories, 23.8g of fat (6.9g saturated fat), 41.2g of total carbohydrate, 5.2g of sugars, and 21.5g of protein. Around half an hour of high-intensity interval training should be enough to burn around 450 calories.

The hot subs begin at a regular size and one of Jersey Mike’s bestsellers is the #56 which is the Big Kahuna Cheese Steak. A regular Big Kahuna Cheese Steak sub should contain around 770 calories, 35.2g of fat (16.5g saturated fat), 67.0g total carbohydrate, 8.4g sugars, and 47.9g of protein. It should take around 45 minutes of a group cycling class or high-impact step aerobics to burn around 700 calories.

Allergens/Dietary Preferences

There are certain allergens to be aware of from each sub which is detailed in the Nutrition & Allergens section. If you are concerned about the wheat from the bread you can choose the bowl as an item that solely contains the fillings without the bread to go around them. In terms of dietary preferences, certain items may be preferred over others due to how they relate to a Halal or Kosher diet such as meat, cheese, and seafood.

Restaurant Locations

Thankfully, the sub-specialists have expanded from their original location to open up branches across the country. Strangely, the state of New Jersey only has the fifth most Jersey Mike’s. There are currently 334 branches in California, 191 in Florida, 183 in Texas, and 175 in North Carolina with just 124 branches in New Jersey. There are over 2330 branches of Jersey Mike’s in the USA with a further one in Ontario, Canada, and a single location in Mexico which is in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

You can order a sandwich online to pick it up in the store but there are delivery options too with delivery costing around $3 depending on location.
