About the Menu

Hot Specialty Subs

The most popular food options served by Firehouse Subs are their tasty selection of hot subs which have made up the bulk of the menu since it first opened its doors back in 1994. These sandwiches are actually split into two separate menus being the hot specialty subs, and the regular hot subs.

The specialty subs are sometimes referred to as the ‘premium’ sandwiches and refer to the most popular sandwiches Firehouse has to offer including the cheesy Hook & Ladder, the Firehouse Meatball, and the ever-popular New York Steamer. While you can only pick these up in medium or large, the majority of these subs are priced between $7 and $8 with the most expensive being the Smokehouse Beef and Cheddar Brisket at $9.49.

Hot and Cold Subs

The hot subs menu is a little more streamlined and usually features just one main ingredient that can be topped off with any extra salad or sauces of your choosing. Some of the options include turkey breast, honey ham, and pastrami. The majority of these subs tend to be just a little cheaper than the specialty subs being between $5 and $8.59, depending on time and location. (Prices are subject to change over a period of time and from state to state).

We love the Smoked turkey breast hot sub, coming with provolone, placed neatly atop a toasted sub roll. This loaded sub is just that - it is packed with deli mustard, mayo, tomato, lettuce, onion, and a side kosher dill pickle. Also, you can enjoy all of Firehouse’s hot subs as cold subs, too. Just ask at the store and it will be prepared to your liking!

You have the option of two different cold subs; Momma’s Chicken Salad and Tuna Salad, which are of a similar price. However, if you really want to go all out, you can also build your own sub with the incredible selection of meat, spices, breads, and sauces on offer. Whether you want a grilled chicken breast sub, a corned beef brisket sub, or a veggie sub, just ask for the fillings of your choice and you can get one catered to your taste.

Unfortunately, the gluten-free choices in this customizable menu are not available in small or large sizes, and can only be bought in medium sizes. But, for everything else, you have the option of choosing the bread and meat in either small, medium or large sizes, with the most expensive being the Corned Beef Brisket, currently priced at $11.39.

Drinks

You can wash your sub down with a choice of three refreshing drinks, starting from under $2.00. The Fountain drinks are available in small, medium, and large sizes, whilst there is also a Soft Drink, a bottle of Vitamin Water, and a bottle of Dasani Water, currently for the same price of $1.89.

Kid’s Combo

Your kids will be hungry too, so why not treat them to a Kids Grilled Cheese for under $5.00? This is a hot grilled cheddar cheese sub that comes with a 12 oz. Fountain drink, and a kid-sized fire hat! You can also upgrade to a cookie, chips, or a brownie for an additional charge. In some selected locations, milk is also available, but we recommend you check your local restaurant for details.

Whatever you order for your kids here, they’ll love every bite!

Other Items Available

You can also choose catering platters from under $30.00 up to over $40.00 currently. The Deluxe platter is a popular item at Firehouse Subs. It comes with 20 Subs that are packed with the restaurant’s most popular combinations of provolone with ham and turkey, Genoa salami, roast beef and turkey (or ham), pepperoni, and a tuna salad. The subs also come loaded with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and vinaigrette with sides of deli mustard, mayo, and kosher dill pickles. Altogether, this platter will serve up to 10 hungry folks.

You can even upgrade your Sub Platter further to a Platter Pack. This allows you to choose a gallon beverage, as well as 10 assorted cookies, 10 assorted chips, a few plates, and napkins to clean up afterward.

Other platters include catering salads, catering dessert platters, and catering box lunches. The box lunches tend to start at under $6.00 but serve fewer people. Many of these platters, however, are perfect for sharing with your family and friends.

Nutrition and Allergies

While it depends on what type of sub you decide to purchase, most of Firehouse Subs’ sandwiches contain medium to high calorie levels due to how many ingredients are packed into them. While the small Spicy Cajun Chicken and Hook & Ladder contain the lowest amount clocking in at just 360 calories, the Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket contains the highest at 1,500 calories.

The Engineer is also a delicious and healthy sub option that not only contains just over 350 calories but is also packed full of protein with 19g worth of it packed between the bread. If you want to make this nutritious sandwich even healthier, leave out the Swiss cheese and mayo to cut off some of the fat and order it with a side of sautéed mushrooms and vegetables to create the healthiest meal you can make from the menu.

While many of Firehouse’s subs are low in sugar and fiber, many do also contain moderate to high levels of protein, fat, and tremendous amounts of sodium, so if you are a little cautious about your calorie count, it’s a better idea to make your own sub or choose a single meat or cold sub instead.

All subs except for the regular meatball variants contain eggs while the only ones that contain fish are the Sweet and Spicy Meatball and the Engineer. No subs contain any shellfish or peanuts, however all contain seeds except for the regular Meatball and Sweet and Spicy Meatball subs.

In terms of the cold subs, they all contain eggs, fish, milk and seeds but do not contain any shellfish, peanuts or nitrates. All the side options use eggs while only the cookies and brownies contain milk.

Locations

There are 1,170 Firehouse Subs located across 47 different states and in Canada. Florida houses the most with a staggering 175 stores as of 2022 which makes up roughly 15% of all stores across the country with Texas having the second most at 118. Alabama has the least amount at 41 which makes up around 3% of all Firehouse Subs in America.

Their stores are therefore quite widespread and if you are in a state where they are located, chances are a Firehouse Sub will only be a few blocks away.

There are also a few states and territories which are yet to have any Firehouse Sub stores, these are:

  • Hawaii
  • Massachusetts
  • Connecticut
  • Vermont
  • Delaware
  • American Samoa
  • U.S. Virgin Islands
  • Guam
  • District of Columbia

Summary

While it is definitely a lot healthier than the majority of other fast food chains, we would still recommend opting for a colder or more basic sub if you’re on a stricter diet, or better yet, you can even make your own sub to add in as many or as little ingredients as you would like.
